Workplace fatalities were down to the lowest level in 11 years, according to a Safe Work Australia report – Work-related Traumatic Fatalities, Australia 2014. Sadly though, 191 workers lost their lives through work-related injuries!
As another matter of concern, the number of fatalities for self-employed workers was over 3 times more than the rate for employed workers (4.39 versus 1.31 deaths per 1,000,000).
This underscores the need for self-employed workers to take safety seriously. Self-employed people can find helpful resources at Safe Work Australia, Work Safe ACT, Work Cover NSW, Work Safe NT, Workplace Health and Safety Qld, Work Cover SA, Work SAfe Tas, Work Cover Vic, Work Safe WA
